The Message
Inspiration for Portraits of V comes from the countless conversations I’ve had throughout my life about how people feel in their own bodies. Too often, those feelings range from self-consciousness to deep shame—emotions born from judgment and ridicule directed at features that should instead inspire pride.
With Portraits of V, I hope to spark reflection on what truly makes our bodies beautiful. Though the project focuses on one specific aspect of the human body, the dialogue it invites extends to every part of our shared humanity. There is a unique texture in our skin, just as there is a unique texture in each of our lives.
The Process
As with any photo session, each shoot begins with a short consultation. This is our opportunity to get to know one another, discuss the process, and ensure you know exactly what to expect. The goal is to create a sense of comfort and trust well before the day of the shoot.
Whenever possible, participants are encouraged to bring a trusted friend for added support. In addition, my assistant, Maddi—a registered ICU nurse—will be present at every session to help maintain a safe and respectful environment.
Cleanliness and safety are top priorities. You can expect all appropriate precautions to be taken to ensure both.
Most sessions last between 30 and 45 minutes.
Anonymity
Another top priority is maintaining complete anonymity for every participant, as well as for anyone present during the shoot. While a consent form will be required, all identities will remain strictly confidential and fully protected.
